How DRY ICE BLASTING Works

Cryo Clean uses Intelblast IBL3000 with various sized nozzles depending on the job. Dry ice pellets are propelled at high speed through a nozzle. When these pellets strike the surface, they cause an instantaneous thermal shock. This rapid temperature difference causes the grime or buildup (such as grease, oil or dirt) to contract and become brittle. The dry ice itself is extremely cold (-78.5 degrees Celsius). Upon impact, the cold temperature causes the grime or contaminants to shrink and crack. This makes it easier for the buildup to break apart and detach from the surface. As the dry ice hits the surface, they begin to sublimate (turn from solid to gas). This creates tiny micro explosions, that help dislodge even the most stubborn contaminants. The combination of thermal shock and the sublimation process helps turn the grime into a fine dust or powder, which can then be easily removed. Because the dry ice turns into a gas and leaves no residue, the surface is left clean and dry.

THERMAL SHOCK

CONTAMINANT CRACKING

This thermal shock causes the grime and buildup to become brittle and crack, weakening its bond to the surface.

SUBLIMATION LIFT-OFF

As the dry ice hits the surface, it instantly sublimates (turns from solid to gas), creating micro-explosions that lift the loosened contaminants away.

RESIDUE-FREE CLEAN

Since the dry ice sublimates completely, it leaves behind no residue – just a clean, dry surface.
